Construction and railway works for DSB’s workshop buildings

As a subcontractor for MT Højgaard, we have contributed extensively to the construction and railway-related works for DSB and their new workshops in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Næstved.
DSB is gradually phasing out the old diesel trains and replacing them with new electric IC5 train sets, which has created a need for new workshop facilities.

At the Copenhagen workshop, we were responsible for the entire site setup and all demolition work. We carried out earthworks, drainage and utility installations, track works, overhead power supply, security installations, high-voltage installations, lighting, landscaping, security fencing and paving works. The site area, covering 58,400 m², will accommodate workshop buildings and a wheel-turning facility.

Our railway department manually established tracks and track beds, including the installation of 21 sets of points. Additionally, the railway department delivered and installed 585 m of track embedded in the floor structures of the new workshop halls, where our subcontractor Bravida A/S installed overhead power lines for all outdoor tracks and within the workshop building.

DGNB Gold-certified train workshops

These workshops are the world’s first to be DGNB Gold certified. We have integrated sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions into the project to ensure compliance with the certification requirements.

As a sustainability initiative, it was decided during the design phase to reuse the existing railway ballast in the new design. We screened, cleaned and reused approximately 30,000 tons of ballast from the old track beds for use in the new beds. This work was carried out using our own specially built sorting facility.
