15 km of motorway widening

In May 2024, we won three main contracts as part of the widening of the E45 motorway from Aarhus S to Aarhus N. We are widening 15 km of the road from four to six lanes for the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet).

We are responsible for constructing three out of four stages of the project, extending from Genvejen to the Aarhus N motorway interchange, including the reconstruction of the Djursland motorway. Our work includes earthworks, drainage, paving and equipment installations, as well as property demolition, traffic management and bridge construction.

Lot 1: Åbo and Lyngby

The “Road and Bridge Mid–South” section of the motorway includes the widening of the E45 Østjyske Motorvej between Åbo and Lyngby.

Our work includes:

• Widening each carriageway from two lanes to three over approximately 6 km
• Reconstruction of TSA 49 Aarhus S (Genvejen) and the Aarhus V motorway interchange, including widening the slip roads for Route 15, the Herning motorway
• Widening of bridges at Harlevholmvej, Skibbyvej and Glamhøjvej
• Establishment of noise barriers, new surface layers at the Aarhus V motorway interchange and a south-west exit slip at TSA 49 Aarhus S
• Installation of signs and portals

80,000 tonnes of asphalt were laid just before Christmas 2024.

All our work is carried out while the motorway remains in operation, which of course requires special safety measures and road closures.

Lot 2: Lyngby and Geding

The “Road and Bridge Mid–North” section of the motorway includes the widening of the E45 Østjyske Motorvej between Lyngby and Geding.

Our work includes:

• Widening each carriageway from two lanes to three over approximately 6 km
• Reconstruction of TSA 47 Tilst (at Viborgvej) with modifications to the slip roads
• Construction of a new underpass for pedestrians and cyclists at True Skov
• Widening of bridges at Lyngbygårdsvej and Viborgvej and retaining walls at Geding Byvej
• Widening of the Blankhøj and Pedersminde rest areas

Additional work

We are also performing foundation work, including piling, installation of hot-dip galvanised HEB profiles and anchor installations. Additionally, we are handling drainage and utility works, including over-pumping services, pipe lining, guided directional drilling and pipe jacking. All these tasks are managed by our infrastructure department, while our construction department is responsible for concrete works on bridges and retaining walls, including waterproofing.

The contract also includes all paving works such as asphalt laying, paving and road markings, as well as final installations of noise barriers, guardrails, fences, signs and portals.
