6,000 m² excavation site

As part of the total contract for AP Pension in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn, AP Ejendomme is constructing a 28,000 m² commercial building. Our foundation department installed the sheet pile wall for the approx. 6,000 m² excavation site, and we established a 13×55 m cofferdam, built using sheet piles from our own inventory.

Our groundwater lowering department implemented the necessary measures to regulate the groundwater level in the hard and highly water-bearing limestone. Once the excavation site was dry, we excavated 160,000 tonnes of soil, both clean and contaminated, and used 25,000 tonnes of soil for backfilling around the basement and the temporary cofferdam.

Facts

Excavation: 160,000 tonnes of soil

Contribution to DGNB Platinum Certification

Marmormolen is an ambitious sustainability project, involving the use of timber in construction to help reduce CO₂ emissions in the building industry. The project aims to achieve DGNB Platinum and WELL certifications, which will only be awarded once all materials have been determined and construction is completed.

We have actively contributed to the certification goal by implementing sustainable alternatives and cost-effective solutions to reduce overall construction costs.

Initiatives:
• Material optimisation: We advised the client and consultants that several large wells could be replaced with PVC instead of concrete, which was both cost-efficient and environmentally friendly.

• Reusing sand: The project required 25,000 m³ of sand, and to further reduce costs and CO₂ emissions, we reused sand from Nordø, located just 1 km from Marmormolen.
