19,000 m² excavation site

In the former harbour area of Svanemølleholm, along Sundkrogsgade in Nordhavn, AP Pension is developing a new headquarters for Nykredit and a multi-user building. As the main contractor, we have carried out site preparation, excavation, foundation works, groundwater lowering and concrete works in preparation for the large-scale construction.
The excavation covers 19,000 m² and will accommodate a 13,000 m² underground parking facility and a 50,000 m² tower block.

Key project tasks:
• Sheet piling, including anchor installation
• Piling
• Earthworks and utility installations
• Groundwater management and dewatering of the excavation site
• Securing the Lynette pipeline

Sheet piling and piling works

Our foundation department handled sheet piling and piling works, which were affected by a large wastewater pipeline running through the excavation site. We conducted continuous measurements on all foundation works and vibrated only the piles and sheet piles closest to the pipeline to minimise potential impacts.
Additionally, we drilled 200 foundation elements for the building.

The Lynette pipeline, which transports wastewater from northern Copenhagen to the Lynetten treatment plant, runs through the excavation. Half of the pipeline is buried underground, and 210 piles were installed to protect it from vibrations.

To safeguard the above-ground section of the pipeline, we installed a secant pile wall. This involved 126 piles using 350 m³ of concrete. Following this, we cast a 605 m³ reinforced concrete slab over the pipeline to protect it and secure it against uplift.

Groundwater lowering

Our groundwater management department designed a solution where large wells were drilled 1 m below the excavation base. These wells were fitted with submersible pumps to remove groundwater from the site.
All the wells were connected to deep drainage channels along the sheet pile walls and across the excavation.
Pumps directed the water to a treatment system consisting of a sedimentation container with aeration and an oil separator, before the treated water was discharged into the sewer system.
