Precision tunnelling
The tunnel was drilled under the road with only 3 m of soil cover. This limited cover posed a risk of settlement and blow-ups, which could have compromised the road’s structural integrity. Therefore, precise control of our tunnelling equipment was critical to the project.
Throughout the tunnelling process, no blow-ups or ground movements in Hovvejen were detected. We also passed a 400 mm diameter concrete stormwater pipe, with only 32 cm clearance between the top of the tunnel machine and the underside of the stormwater pipe.
After tunnel completion, a TV inspection of the stormwater pipe was conducted, and no damage to the concrete pipeline was detected.
